Absinthe Pendant with Oscar Wilde Quote

$ 20.00

"I could never quite accustom myself to absinthe, but it suits my style so well."

--Oscar Wilde

Absinthe is the anise-flavored liquor made from the flowers and leaves of the wormwood plant that took France by storm in the nineteenth century. Its characteristic green color gave it the nickname "La Fée Verte" (The Green Fairy). At the height of its popularity it challenged wine as Frances national drink. In fact, much of the negative publicity that came to surround absinthe started as propaganda from the French wine industry.

The front of this pendant is a beautiful Art Nouveau style poster advertising the beverage by French artist Henri Privat-Livemont. On the back is the above quote by well-known absinthe imbiber Oscar Wilde.

The pendant is made from lead free pewter, glass and artist quality paper and inks. It measures 1 x 1.5 inches in area and is a little over 1/4 of an inch thick. It comes in an aged patina reminiscent of antique stained glass. It comes with a 30 inch ("opera length") black satin cord that you can easily replace with your own chain or cord if you choose.
