Imagine yourself meandering through an enchanted ancient forest. You step under the canopy, and your senses come alive, smelling the damp soil, and earthy foliage mixed with cedarwood, oakmoss, cypress, fir balsam, pine needles. You breathe deep and take in hints of dark musk, vetiver, amber, rose petals, lilacs, lilies, and violets. This body powder has a classic scent that, at first glance, may remind some of a robust vintage aftershave, but don't be fooled at the smells that first come from the tin. Let your powder breathe. Allow the perfume to develop and change. This enchanted body powder will mix with your body's chemistry to compose a unique scent all your own, triggering emotional connections to past memories, which may include wonderful childhood family memories, or memories of far away and enchanted places.

This Body Powder has a vividly dark and densely enchanting yet smooth fragrance. With savory and refreshing, full-bodied woodsy incense-like notes, this calming scent makes me feel like I am reading an old fairy tale.

Deep, dark, woodsy, and earthy scents like this evoke the unique and historical ideology of fragrances that were popular in both men's and women’s products in the early to mid 20th Century. Strong scents were used to help mask natural body odor before we had products like deodorants and antiperspirants. These types of scents were trendy with the Victorians and famous in the Art Nouveau period, through the 1940s. This nostalgic body powder, although strong to the senses at first, will transform on your skin for an overall light and refreshing scent.

History of Body Powder:

Today we call them "Body Powders”, but these were historically called “Talcum Powders" or "Talc Powders". These powders are meant for the entire body, feet included. Before deodorants, these “body powders’ promised to keep the body fresh and dry. It wasn’t until the early 1900’s that the first idea of having a separate powder for deodorant started being developed.

Body powders were advertised for everyone but specifically targeted at women more so then men because the notions of the day said that women should be feminine and without body odor. Talcum powder was advertised to men, but differently saying the user would feel fresh. The idea of body odor was more accepted for men because it was associated with masculinity. Women should not have any bodily smell, as it is not sweet, feminine, or delicate.

As people started caring more about how they smelled and keeping themselves clean, new products were introduced that promised to keep sweat down while preserving the body clean and healthy. Talcum Powders helped to absorb moisture and cut down on friction, making it useful for keeping skin dry, which helped to prevent chafing and skin rashes. It was many times advertised in a more medical or medicinal sense than a cosmetic one. Today, talcum powder is no longer considered safe to use, so product names and ingredients have had to change with the times. In modern products, manufacturers no longer use talc or call these powders 'Talcum'; instead, they have been renamed 'Body Powder' and even sometimes divided into specific categories for the feet, bum, and other areas of the body. Today's substitutes for talc include Corn Starch, Rice Powder, Arrowroot, Baking Soda, & Tapioca Starch.

We suggest keeping this tin on your vanity and keeping a puff in it. The cornstarch base will pack down, and you can pat the puff lightly onto the powder. Doing this will allow the perfect amount on your puff ( you don’t need much). Take the loose powder and pat on the skin with your powder puff. Next, roll the puff to smooth in the powder into the skin. Brush off the excess and you are done!  Pat yourself on the back for helping to keep your body dry, clean, and healthy in an authentic historic fashion.
